Going Green and Saving Green
In this era of ‘Going Green’, maybe we should investigate the benefits of purchasing used items and clothing. Eeew, used clothing? Somebody else’s stuff? Secondhand stores?
Why not? It may not sound appealing at first thought, but let’s look a little at the pros and cons of purchasing gently used items. And the benefits of shopping online.
At today’s inflationary rate, modestly a new pair of jeans cost anywhere from $69 - $199 and up. A new top can start at $59. Combine all that with a new pair of $99 shoes and you’ve spent over $200!
For some, that’s well within their budget. For other’s, it’s an expense they may have to cut from their budget.
So consider the benefits for shopping gently used clothing online?
• Most of the items are very gently used
• Most are good quality name-brand clothes
• Finding unique one-of-a-kind items not available in stores
• Not shopping the masses of sameness
• The ease of shopping from home

In Santa Fe New Mexico, consignment thrift stores are as popular as high end boutiques you find on the town square. I recently priced a beautiful pair of boots at one of the town’s boutiques for $599. After choking, I opted not to purchase. Later in the week I found a very similar boot at a consignment store for $98! Now that’s finding a gem in a treasure hunt!
